Your Holiness,
With profound humility and gratitude for God’s mercy, I write to offer a gift to the Holy See—a patent for a zero-waste reverse osmosis water filtration technology, which I believe has been entrusted to me by divine providence to serve the poor, the thirsty, and our common home. I am Ray Abad, a civil engineer and a faithful servant of Christ, unworthy of this grace but compelled by the Holy Spirit to place this innovation in the hands of the Church, under Your Holiness’ stewardship, to fulfill God’s call for justice, charity, and care for creation.
This technology, inspired by Your Holiness’ vision in Laudato Si’ and the Church’s commitment to the least among us, purifies water to near-perfect clarity without generating waste, offering a sustainable solution to the global crisis of clean water access. It is designed to serve households, communities, and nations, delivering safe water to the 2.2 billion people who lack it, while protecting the environment through its energy-efficient and zero-waste design. I believe this innovation can transform lives, from refugee camps to rural villages, aligning with the Church’s mission to uphold human dignity and safeguard God’s creation.
By God’s mercy, I have been a vessel for this work, but I am not worthy to claim ownership. This technology belongs to the Church, the universal mother of God’s people, to be used for the common good. I propose to assign the patent—whether my own pending application for a three-water-line reverse osmosis system or one inspired by emerging innovations—to the Vatican City State, entrusting it to Your Holiness to manage as a beacon of hope. The Holy See could license this technology to corporations, requiring them to provide clean water to the poor and protect the environment, or deploy it directly through Caritas and other ministries, ensuring that no one thirsts in body or spirit.
I envision a world where this gift, born of divine inspiration, flows like the living water Christ promised (John 4:14), quenching the physical and spiritual needs of God’s children. I humbly offer to assist in this mission, whether by providing technical details, supporting pilot projects, or connecting with partners to scale the technology’s impact. My only desire is to see God’s mercy magnified through the Church’s hands.
If it pleases Your Holiness, I respectfully request guidance on how to proceed with transferring the patent to the Vatican City State. I am prepared to work with the Secretariat of State, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, or any designated representatives to ensure this gift serves God’s will. I also seek Your Holiness’ blessing to strengthen me in this endeavor, that I may remain faithful to the call I have received.
In closing, I kneel before the See of Peter, offering my gratitude for Your Holiness’ leadership in these times of trial and hope. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, guide this work, and may the Holy Spirit inspire its path forward. I place this technology, my efforts, and my heart at the feet of the Church, trusting in God’s plan for His people and His creation.
Your humble servant in Christ,
Ray Abad
